Client Work: Tastemaker Magazine

Client Work: Tastemaker MagazineI am beyond excited to finally get to share my most current client work with you! I was contacted back in November by the editor of Atlanta Tastemaker Magazine about designing their next magazine cover. I was nervous to take on this work as my speciality are invitations and accessories but I challenged myself and took on the job. I’m so glad I did! I really enjoyed working with the editor and her creative director to get it just right.

Be sure to check out their January / February issue coming out next week and go and see Marlon Wayans new movie!

Happy New Year ya’ll!

I’m SO excited to be starting the New Year off on the right foot. 2012 business tax information is ready to go to the accountant. Bam! The blog got a pretty up-do. Boom! And my list of 2013 goals are ready to be tackled. Booyah!

I’ve been reading Nancy’s blog for awhile and what I really enjoy about it is how open she is about what she’s doing in her life. I feel like I know her even though we’ve never met. In one of her recent posts, she put out a call to action to join her in writing out our yearly goals and then break them down into actionable monthly steps.

I’m all in!

For 2013 I will be doing the following:
• Throw a fun party for Tyler and Kendall
• Visit my family in Texas for the holidays
• Launch 5 new products
• Launch the custom design business extension and relaunch your branding (coming soon!!)
• Run a 5k and a 10k
• Read 6 books
• Pay off 2 credit cards
• Stay on top of business finances (check out Emily’s great post about this very topic!)
• Treat each customer and client as if they are your only
• Don’t compare yourself to others and live the life you were meant to (can I get an Amen?!)

Phew! That’s a pretty powerful and ambitious list but with monthly check-ins in place I really believe I can will accomplish each of these.

For each month, I’m choosing to focus on only 5 actionable steps to get me to my ultimate goal.

In January I will be doing:
• Create a savings plan to get us to Texas in December
Design Tyler’s birthday invitation (OK I cheated a bit since this is already done, but I need to put some final touches on it.)
• Finish reading Rework
• List out all of our credit card debts and decide which 2 we will focus on for the year to pay off
• Weather permitting: complete month 1 of couch to 5k program (right now we have about 5 inches of snow!!)

I’d love to work through our goals together for 2013. Sound off in the comments with a link to your blog posts or list your goals below. Let’s tackle 2013 and live a meaningful life!

customstationery_comingsoon_blogI almost forgot! In March, I’m launching my custom design business which will allow me to work one on one with clients to bring their party visions to life. We’ll be working closely to design the party invitation, accessories and much more! There will be a 20% discount on all custom design orders placed between now and March 1st, so if you have a party coming up soon! Shoot me an email and let’s get started!

Are you wondering where did the links for the free printables went? Now they are beautifully arranged in a gallery on their own little page. Enjoy!

2013 Intentions

2013 A Year of Meaningful LivingThis year has been a lot about reflection for me. There have been huge changes in our lives, from having a baby to leaving my corporate job, that has taken me awhile to get used to. I still feel as though I’m in that transition phase. But I have wrapped my head around A LOT and have managed to find the ground and start making traction.

Next year, I want A LOT to change. Not because I’m unhappy with anything, but because I’m growing to be the person I want to be. It’s time to shed the past and move forward.

Can you believe in February it will be Perideau Designs’ four year anniversary? In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a very long time but yet it does feel like an eternity. And every year for my business I’ve made goals. Selfish materialistic goals. But as I thought about how I want next year to shape out I threw those type of goals out. I want need to focus on what I can control and not what’s out of my hands. I cannot dictate which magazine will publish my products. I cannot dictate the amount of profit I will make each month. I cannot dictate how many sales I’ll have next year.

But what I CAN control is the bigger picture for this little baby.

It all began when emails started to flood in saying how much my customers loved my products and how they come back every year. I AM SO SO GRATEFUL for all of these emails! But there is one from a long standing customer that wrung my heart that I want to share with you.

I received an email from Jenn during the end of my Christmas rush inquiring about the status of her order. Unfortunately it had gone to my spam folder so I didn’t respond right away. But when I did, her order had ironically gone out the day before. She responded so sincerely that she received my status update email and that she was hoping to use our muslin bags for her children’s teacher gifts, but the next day was the last day of school and her order wouldn’t arrive in time. Mortified I responded asking what could I do to rectify the situation? I didn’t want to respond with a here’s a free product or a discount on her next order, I wanted her to feel as thought she is my.only.customer. I left myself vulnerable. Albeit naked. She could’ve easily taken advantage of me and demanded something outrageous. But instead she replied by saying hey, it’s ok, I’ll just be ahead of the game next year.

WOW! I was beyond floored. It’s customers like these that make my heart sing and make me wake up every morning ready to work. It’s the reason I started this business to provide stylish gifts to the world. I’m here to help a budding entrepreneur begin their business with a strong brand. I’m here to design custom invitations that are like no other on the market.

So next year I’m going to focus on what I can control and live a meaningful and intentional life. Don’t get me wrong, I still have HUGE dreams for this little business but my focus has just shifted to what really matters. It’s not about the press. It’s not about the numbers. It’s about the people who make your business grow.

DIY Mini Placemats

I was in party planning mode yesterday with brainstorming Tyler’s first birthday theme and now planning our big Christmas dinner next week. I’m making a big dinner and then we’ll follow it with a cookie swap and hot cocoa bar. And as I was shopping in Michael’s yesterday I found the perfect boxes for our guests to take home their cookies in. Cute festive straws for the kiddies and holiday coasters for the hot cocoa.

I also came across this glittered paper that looks a lot like peppermint candy. I had an aha moment! Since we’ll have a separate table for the kids, I decided they needed their own placemats. So I cut the 12″x12″ paper down to 8.5″x11″ and laminated them to make mini placemats. A darling and cute way to deck out the kiddie table at any holiday party!
