Apple Picking + Vanilla Apple Sauce

We had a busy weekend of running errands, hanging out with family and apple picking. For the past few months, I decided to not work on the weekends and I’m so happy I made that decision. We spend more quality time together doing fun things around town. And since Kendall is now in kindergarten our weekends are more precious than ever.

After researching on Pinterest ideas on what to do with apples, we spent a few hours today picking $40 worth of apples and carving pumpkins with neighbors. I then promptly came home to whip up a batch of vanille apple sauce. Oh my heavens is it delicious! While it was simmering away on the stovetop Wayne commented on how wonderful the house smelled. He said that it should be bottled up and sold. He might be onto something.

Next on the list is apple butter which I tweaked the recipe and now have stewing away in the crock pot. Tomorrow morning, the house will smell even more amazing! I’ll share pics and the recipe once we put the stamp of approval on it. I’m thinking the apple butter would make a great and cute holiday gift.
