Modern Monday with Mollie Burpo

Happy Monday ya’ll! I hope you all had a nice and relaxing weekend.

Today I’m so very excited to share with you the talents of Mollie, the amazingness behind bloom. I met Mollie on chat boards when we were both pregnant with our now vibrant todders. Even though we have never met in person I feel like we’ve known each forever.

Hey Mollie! Tell us about your business.
Bloom photography specializes in portraits and wedding in Austin, Texas. My images are modern, crisp, and carefree.

How have you grown your business from an idea to where it is now?
I’ve grown this business through late nights and early mornings, lots of coffee and glasses of wine! I get asked quite often ‘how do you DO it?’ and frankly- I do it because I love my work, I love my clients, and I have been incredibly blessed through Bloom! I am a one-woman show and I do it all from shooting to editing to last minute runs to the post office.

I have learned so much through practice, workshops, master classes, and through online professional groups. I have opted for social media networking rather than traditional advertising. The best compliment you can give me is to refer my work to families and couples looking for a photographer.I have amazing clients who have spread the word to their friends and have been so lucky to make connections with such lovely people!

Why did you begin your business?
I left the advertising world when my oldest daughter was born and found myself craving a creative outlet. I decided to start Bloom to fulfill those creative needs as well as my desire to stay home during the day with my kids. Being a mom can be quite a thankless job, so doing photography also gave me a place to find positive feedback, praise, and community.

Where do you draw your inspiration from and how do you apply it to your business?
I find inspiration everywhere- from editorial spreads in magazines to movies, to the way the sun is lighting up a tree at sunset. I try to do at least one unexpected shot at every session to push myself past my comfort zone. Sometimes if I have a specific shot in mind, I will sit on it until the perfect moment or client or light presents itself and go for it!

Describe a typical day.
A typical day around here starts with my baby’s morning nap, then we hit the gym! I get work or household tasks done during naptime and then play with the girls in the afternoon until I cook our dinner to share with their dad. My sweet husband always gives me a little break while he gets all 3 girls ready for bed. After snuggles, kisses, and songs they are off to dreamland and I get to work for 2 or 3 more hours.

Name 3 interesting facts many people don’t know about you.
Three facts you may not know about me?! eek! If you read my blog(s) (photo blog + personal blog) there probably isn’t much you don’t know since I am such an open book! I am a vegetarian and have been for just over 6 years. I am training for a triathlong that is in just 3 weeks!! I hate pedicures. The last time I had one was before Lily was born and I couldn’t reach my feet, but in general I am way too ticklish to enjoy them.
