Chocolate Chip Brownies

Today Kendall and I went over to her Godparents house for a BBQ and I was bringing my famous red velvet truffles but had to bring a dessert for Kendall to enjoy because of her allergies. I don’t know about any other mothers out there who has a child with life-threatening allergies but get-togethers, school activities, and parties make me break out in hives. I get so nervous she’s going to eat or drink something that would cause her to go into anaphylaxis shock and because of that I’m constantly on high alert and unable to fully enjoy myself. Just like last weekend when we went to a birthday party and one of the mothers there was helping out and distributing ice cream cake to all the kids. Without knowing Kendall’s allergies, she proceeded to hand her a piece. Luckily I was there to intercept it but what if I wasn’t?

However thanks to Kelly Rudnicki, author of The Food Allergy Mama’s Baking Book, I can now make so many treats for Kendall without having to find alternate ingredients myself. Her book starts off with a lot of tips and advice, such as mixing vinegar with soy milk makes dairy-free buttermilk, yea who knew?! She also gives suggestions on how to handle birthday parties and school celebrations.

Food Allergy Mama Baking BookBut what I really love about Kelly’s book is that I can now bake with my daughter. I’ve had visions of both of us wearing aprons and making a huge mess in the kitchen, but I was so scared about what she would get into. I still get that way from time to time but today we enjoyed a relaxing morning making the most delicious allergen-free chocolate chip brownies ever! And Kendall enjoyed spending time with her mama and about 3 of the brownies too! Can’t blame the girl.

They were ‘tip-toe’ good!
How could you not want to bake with this precious face?
